Chemistry of Some Species Genus Lantana

چکیده
This review presents the currently known phytochemical constituents of the genus Lantana; a total of 160 natural compounds have been included. Lantana is free from diterpenoids and rich in essential oils. Monoterpenes, triterpenes, flavones coumarin, steroids, iridoid glycosides, and caffeic acid derivatives are reported from Lantana. Triterpenes and flavones are the more common secondary metabolites in Lantana. Lantana plants are used in folk medicine in many parts of the world. The genus Lantana also produces a number of metabolites in high quantities and some have been shown to possess useful biological activities. The ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry and toxicity of Lantana are considered. The biological activities exhibited by some of the metabolites are discussed and the results of recent studies on the triterpene inhibitors of human α-thrombin discovered in this plant are presented.

متن کاملPhenolic Content, Antioxidant Effects and Tyrosinase Inhibitory Activity of Extract of Some Stachys Species from Iran
Background: Given the importance of Stachys genus in Iran and their significant biological activity, we collected three species of this plant: St. aucheri Benth., Stachys benthamiana Boiss and St. inflata Benth. from different regions of Iran. We examined the free radical scavenging potential, total phenol content and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of their methanol, methanol 80% and dichlorome...
متن کاملEffective control or pathway to invasion? Recruitment of native and Lantana camara L. seedlings after a low intensity burn
Invasion by exotic species is among the most important global scale problems experienced by natural systems. One such species occurring in Australia is Lantana camara L. It infests grazing land, competes with crop species and infests areas of national significance important for the preservation of biodiversity. Management through burning is widely practised but the implications of it's use are ...
متن کاملLong-Term Environmental Correlates of Invasion by Lantana camara (Verbenaceae) in a Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest
Invasive species, local plant communities and invaded ecosystems change over space and time. Quantifying this change may lead to a better understanding of the ecology and the effective management of invasive species. We used data on density of the highly invasive shrub Lantana camara (lantana) for the period 1990-2008 from a 50 ha permanent plot in a seasonally dry tropical forest of Mudumalai ...
متن کاملAntioxidant and Antibacterial Activities of Six Medicinally Important Species of the Genus Salvia from North East of Iran
This study was carried out to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of different extracts from aerial parts of six Salvia species including Salvia ceratophylla, Salvia chorassanica, Salvia leriifolia, Salvia macrosiphon, Salvia chloroleuca and Salvia virgata. The effect of the extracts against 3 Gram positive and 3 Gram negative bacteria was tested by the micro dilution method. ...
